About Grace Frost Jones
Grace Lucile, daughter of Winifred and William Frost was born March 16, 1910 at Box Elder, South Dakota. The family moved to Fort Pierre, South Dakota in 1915 and Grace attended school and graduated with the class of 1928. That summer she enrolled at Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she earned a two year teaching certificate. She taught in rural and public schools in South Dakota until her marriage to Lloyd E Jones in 1937.
Lloyd and Grace moved to Cedar Falls so that she could finish her college degree. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa until July 1944 when they moved to Manson and purchased interest in the Manson Journal. She began writing the Mother's Diary before she moved the children and household to Manson. It came from a suggestion of a friend who said that she write of her family and daily doings just as she did in her letters. She kept the column going in that same vein throughout her 23 active years in Manson.
Grace Frost Jones died Thursday, June 15, 1967 at the University of Iowa hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.
Lloyd continued as editor and publisher of the Manson Journal until his retirement in 1986 when he sold his controlling interest of the 113 year old weekly newspaper to Dudley Printing Company.
