Lloyd and Grace Jones and their three children Nancy, Steve and Bruce moved to Manson, Iowa in 1944 when Lloyd went to work for the Manson Journal, the town's weekly newspaper.
Lloyd moved to Manson in July and Grace and the kids joined him in August. Before heading to Manson, Lloyd asked Grace to start writing a weekly column.
From her earliest school days Grace Frost Jones was entranced by words and her delight was in putting them together in a meaningful manner. Her sisters report that one of the constant sources of their entertainment during childhood were the hundreds of stories she wrote just for them. In high school and in college her classes in creative writing were her special ones.
It is no wonder then that when the opportunity came she was receptive to the suggestion that she write a weekly column. Writing the column was no easy task -- she fretted, stewed and battled her way to the completion of each one.
